The festive lights in Donabate are sponsored and installed by Karl Harte and CP Electrical & Security. Karl and CP have been installing the lights for 25 years now, and the community owe a huge debt of gratitude to Karl and all his team for making the village look so pretty and festive for a quarter of a century! Karl and his crew will work from first light on Saturday the 2nd making sure everything is in place and ready for the lights to go on at 4.30pm.
The Craft Fair & Market will be on in the Parish Hall from 1-6pm. There are still stalls available at the market – the fee for a table for the afternoon is just €5.
For an unusual gift idea, or just a cuppa and a chat, why not come along to the village early and visit the Craft Fair before the Christmas lights go on at 4.30.
The Switching-on event is now in it’s 9th year, and has been getting bigger and better every year! The event is generously sponsored by Fingal County Council, Tesco, SuperValu, WiseBuys, Screenlink Printers, & Multi-Storage. This fun event attracts a huge crowd who come along to enjoy some festive entertainment and refreshments.
In former years, local celebrities were invited to the event to turn on the lights. However, for the last couple of years an art competition has been held in the three Primary schools on the peninsula, and one lucky winner from each school is chosen to flick the switch and turn on the lights!
Previously, the entries to the art competition were displayed on the security railings around the tree. This year, in a break with tradition, all the entries to the art competition will be compiled into a booklet and sold for a small fee, for charity.
Entertainment at the event is provided by a junior choir drawn together from the Donabate Brownies and Ladybirds, the St. Patrick’s Church Children’s Choir, K-Star Academy, and all supported by members of the Tower Singing Circle. We are very grateful to all our singers and musicians for giving up their Saturday afternoon and providing the festive atmosphere!
Feargal Donovan is our Sound Engineer and he generously provides all the technical support for the event.
Santa has promised to try to take time out of his very busy schedule to drop in and check out that all you boys and girls are being nice and not naughty!
The event could not happen without the generous help and support of a whole team of people and we are very grateful to all the elves for their generous assistance! Thank you too to the Donabate/Portrane Community Council, and the Donabate/Portrane Community Centre.
A charity collection is taken up every year, raising hundreds of euros for charity. This year the proceeds of the collection will go to the St. Patrick’s Church Roof Repair appeal.
We are very grateful to everyone involved in this event, and in particular to John Keeling and Keelco, and to Fr. Joe Connolly and everyone at St. Patrick’s RC Church.
Why not come along to the village on Saturday December 2nd, check out the Craft Fair & Market and join in the festivities at the Lighting-up event at 4.30pm.
Let’s kick-start the festive season in style!
