A Public meeting giving information of the permanent build of the Secondary school was held in the Community Centre on Monday 19th October 2009.
Originally the permanent build was to have been delivered to this community in September 2009. This was rescheduled to September 2010.
In an address to the public meeting I raised 2 concerns
1. Why have we missed the deadlines of September 2010?
2. Is the project going to be threatened by Capital expenditure cut backs in the forth coming budget?
At the meeting, the CEO of the VEC Pat O Connor stated that the permanent building of the secondary school would be delivered in Spring 2010. The delay was due to protracted negotiations with Dept of Education and Science and Fingal County Council.
Minister Trevor Sergeant T.D. , Darragh O’Brien T.D. and Michael Kennedy T.D. all gave assurances that the funding was available and that there was no threat to the delivery of this project. The reassurances were further reinforced in a letter from the minister for Education and Science Batt O’Keefe T.D. stating funding had been allocated for this project not be threatened by cutbacks in the forthcoming budget.
The Community Council and its Educational subcommittee will closely monitor this project to ensure that there are no further delays and that the commitments made at our meeting of the 19th October 2009 will be honoured.
The permanent building of the secondary school will be a two storey and triangular building that will accommodate 1000 pupils.
It will include:-
