NHW Awareness Day, Pavilions, Swords, Sat June 6th.
Members of the Donabate Neighbourhood Watch group along with the Swords NHW and Malahide NHW attended at a Neighbourhood Watch information desk set up for the day at the Pavilions SC, Swords. The day itself, after over a week of exceptionally fine weather was extremely wet and cold, so the footfall in the centre was remarkable. A considerable number of NHW booklets were given out along with many crime prevention leaflets. Over 40 enquiries about NHW were fielded, with queries coming from as far as Navan. The enquiries are currently being dealt with.NHW Members at the Awareness Day
 
Know your Community Garda : Garda John McCarthy
Hailing from County Cork, Garda John has been a Garda for 18 years. Before transferring to Swords in 2001, he was based at Whitehall, D9 for 11 years. He moved to the Community Policing Unit in 2005/2006 and has been one of the community gardai for the Donabate/Portrane area for the last 2 years. Garda John is married with five children, ranging in age from 4 to 11. He has played football internationally, captaining the Garda National team at the European Police Championships in 2002. The most notable performance at that tournament was a decisive victory over Cyprus. Garda John played for one year in the League of Ireland with Cork City. He continues his great interest in football by coaching an U/7 and an U/11 team at Swords Celtic. Community Garda John McCarthy
